User Areas are computer laboratories where you can use the PC LAN services provided to get connected to the Internet and are open to all University staff and students.

Using computers in User Areas
This how-to guide helps you to grasp some ideas about the computers in the User Areas. It guides you how to login your account, save your work to Datalocker, check the balance of your Print Account in order to make sure you have enough money in the account to facilitate printing.

2. Facilities
You can use the facilities in user area at both Pi Ch'iu Building and Wong Foo Yuan Buildings. You can access to the campus network and the Internet through the Personal Computers and Macintosh computers. To reserve the User Area facilities, you can ultilize the ITSC Facilities Booking System to make an appointment in advance.

2.1 Workstations and Software in User Areas
Hardware and application software that are available in User Areas.
2.2 Datalocker-Disk Storage on ITSC PC LAN
Datalocker is a network disk storage for storing your files in the ITSC PC LAN of User Areas.
2.3 ITSC Training Rooms
All the training rooms are equipped with wyte board, overhead projector, multi-media projector, projection screen and extra chairs. Users can use them to hold IT training courses.
2.4 Discussion Rooms
Discussion rooms is a private and enclosed area for group discussions.

Services
ITSC provides various computer services to users to satisfy the growing IT needs. These services include printing service and scanning service for students and staff, and Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Service and 35mm Slide Printing Service especially for staff.
Here lists the services provided by ITSC for students and staff:
3.1 Printing Service
Printing service is provided in ITSC user areas and other college/department computer laboratories.
3.2 Scanning Service
Scanners are provided at Rm 108 of Pi Ch'iu Building and Rm 103C of Wong Foo Yuan Building.
3.3 Optical Mark Reading (OMR) Service
Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) is the scanning of media to detect the presence or absence of a mark in a specific position which can be used in surveys, assessments and evaluations.
3.4 Digital Sender
Digital senders convert paper documents to .pdf (Portable Document Format) or .tif (tagged image format) files, and automatically e-mail them to any e-mail address.
3.5 HelpDesk
To give immediate assistance to users-in-need, ITSC also provides consultation services, such as ITSC consultants in the consultation room, Electronic HelpDesk and ITSC hotline: 3943-8845.

4. Lost and Found
All found properties are kept in the HelpDesk (Rm 109A, Pi Ch’iu Building). Properties that remain unclaimed after one month would be discarded by Information Technology Services Centre. For any enquiries, please contact us at 3943-8845 during office hours or via ITSC Electronic HelpDesk.
