Datalocker is a network disk storage for storing your files in the ITSC PC LAN of User Areas. You are assigned with 50MB of disk space. Files stored on the Datalocker will not be deleted after you signoff the ITSC PC LAN. Rather, you can access these files anywhere through the connected computer laboratories and Internet.

 1. Use Policies and Guidelines

As a user of ITSCnet, you are automatically governed by the policies and guidelines stated in document User Reference RGEN002 Computer Network, Policies and Guidelines on Access and Usage. You should take FULL responsibility for all your data stored in the Datalocker A weekly system backup is scheduled on every Sunday at 00:00 but PC LAN services will be available as usual. You are recommended to backup your files on floppy disks regularly. The Centre is not responsible for your files storing in the Datalocker.

 2. Files Saving

Datalocker is mainly used for storing your profile files (e.g. mail preference files and bookmark under folder SETTING) and data files.

In User Areas and other connected computer laboratories, please save your files in Datalocker through folder "My Document" . Click to check the operation details. At home or other areas, you can access your files in Datalocker through File Transfer (FTP) Service.

3. Disk Structure

A 50MB of disk storage is granted to you. You cannot request for additional disk space from Datalocker.

4. File Transfter (FTP) Service

Datalocker supports an FTP service; i.e. you can download/upload your files through any workstations with a connection to the Campus Network running TCP/IP protocol.

You should be aware of the transfer mode for your transfer, Binary files such as MS Word file, MS Powerpoint file and SPSS data file, should be transferred with binary mode. ASCII text file should be transferred with ASCII mode.

5. Miscellaneous

Virus:

To maintain a virus-free computing environment in User Area, ServerProtect and OfficeScan (virus scanner programmes ) were installed in the ITSC PC LAN servers and the desktop computer respectively. ServerProtect scans the files reside on Datalocker and the application server while OfficeScan scans local drives (e.g. C:, D:, A:)

If your file is infected by virus, it will be cleaned. However, if the virus cannot be removed using the available tools, they will be removed without advanced notification for security concerns. Please always use a scanner program to scan the files before storing them in datalocker. In User Area, you can use OfficeScan and at home, you can download a free copy of antivirus software, PC-cillin, for file protection.

Free Disk Space:

 Please ensure there is sufficient working space left on your Datalocker. Some softwares cannot work properly if no enough working disk space is provided on Datalocker. You are recommended to have at least 200KB on Datalocker as working space. Some software may use more space than this figure.

Files/Directories Deletion

Please take special care in deleting your files. If you have deleted any file/sub-directory under your Datalocker, you would not be able to recover/undelete them.
