University
Software Standards (MAR 2008)
Compliance
deadline by Administrative Units: 30 JUNE 2008
-- No other software is acceptable except the recommended software.
Notes on the selection of University Software Standards (Mar 2008):
- For all software
- Both Chinese and English versions are recommended depending on the actual needs of the departments/units.
- Departments/Units are recommended to watch out for the securities patches/software updates provided by the vendors and install the critical patches when necessary. ITSC will also notify departmental LAN administrators about the critical updates of various software.
- For Windows Vista and Office 2007 ¡V ITSC is now evaluating the hardware requirements and software compatibilities of the products. We recommend users to use Windows XP with Office 2003 for now. In order to facilitate exchanging documents without migrating to Office 2007, departments could consider installing MS Compatibility Pack for converting Office 2007 documents into Office 2003 one.
- For Scheduling - ITSC will stop providing supports to Exchange 5.5 and NT 4 at the end of August 2007 as Microsoft has stopped providing supports to the products since Jan 2006.
- For Electronic Filing ¡V To read PDF documents, departments/units are recommended to install Adobe Reader 8 which can be downloaded from Adobe website. Users need to create PDF document could either purchase Acrobat 8 through ITSC or use our campus licensed Acrobat Pro 6.
- For Chinese Character Set ¡V ITSC is implementing a Supplementary Chinese Character Set for the University so that our specially created Chinese characters would be displayed correctly.
