CSC/ITSU HelpDesk Requests Your Feedback
The current CSC/ITSU Electronic HelpDesk system has been in service since 1997. Its objective is to provide a reliable consultation service to response to problems/enquiries submitted via the web http://helpdesk.csc.cuhk.edu.hk or via e-mail. You should receive an initial reply from our HelpDesk staff within 24 hours.

In 1999, the number of enquiries dealt with the Electronic HelpDesk was over 6000. To further evaluate the effectiveness of our HelpDesk function and the degree of your satisfaction, we added a short electronic Feedback Form to the system in early January 2000.

For each enquiry answered, you will receive the Electronic Feedback Form via e-mail. In the form, you will be asked for your feedback about:

  • whether your question was answered effectively
  • whether the answer was easy to understand
  • whether you are satisfied with the response time

Your feedback is very important for us to identify needed improvement to our HelpDesk system. On receiving the form, please take a few minutes to fill it out and return it to us. Your help is very much appreciated.

Seminars on Learning and Teaching Technology
To provide teaching staff with a better understanding of the technology for teaching and learning currently provided by the Computer Services Centre/ Information Technology Service Unit (CSC/ITSU), a series of workshops have been organized on Saturdays from March to April. These seminars include "Computing Fundamentals for Teaching", "Designing a Web-based Course", "Multi-media Technologies", "Multi-media projects", "Classroom Presentation" and "HTML Authoring Tools".

In addition to these workshops, Mr. George Jor of English Language Teaching Unit, Prof. Ho Man Koon of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Mr. George Lam of New Asia College and Prof. Liu Chun Wah of Department of Economics have been invited as guest speakers to share their experience in courses that taught using Information Technology at interactive seminar sessions on Wednesdays. Attendees are welcome to listen to our guest speakers and share their own experience in the corresponding Q&A session.

Internet Access Points (ClassNet) Available in Wong Foo Yuan Building and New Asia College
Over 30 network outlets have been set up in the Staff Student Centre of New Asia College and the User Area of Wong Foo Yuan Building. If you have registered the Ethernet Address of your network card on our system, you should be able to access to the Internet and the Campus Network using your computer through these network outlets in addition to those currently available in the classrooms, the University Library and other buildings.

While you are using the network, you should observe the rules and regulations stated in the "Campus Network - Policies and Guidelines on Access and Usage". Please visit http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/csc/network/classnet for registration and other details.

ResNet Service Available in the Student Hostel II Extension of Shaw College
Similar to other student hostels, dedicated network connections are now available in the new Student Hostel II Extension of Shaw College. Student residents can now access the campus network and the Internet services through the network ports in their rooms if they have registered the Ethernet Address of their network cards on our system. These ports allow access speed up to 10Mbps which is much faster than using a 56k modem and the students can browse on the web as fast as they could do in the computer laboratory on campus.

More ResNet information can be read at http://www.resnet.cuhk.edu.hk
