WARNING - Do Not Execute the file HAPPY99.EXE
A worm (HAPPY99.EXE) has been reported recently. It seems to be just a new year greeting e-card and in fact it will do other things else. When you execute this program, you will see some beautiful fireworks on screen. However, it will also change the configuration of your computer and finally it may cause your computer to fail.
Please refer to http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/happy99.worm.html for the procedure to remove this worm.
If you receive any attachments through e-mail or newsgroups, please use a virus scanning program to scan the files before executing them. If you are not sure the files are virus-free, DO NOT EXECUTE them. This is very important especially if the files come from an unknown source.
FAQ on MS Exchange
In Issue 3, we mentioned that the e-mail system for the University administrative units is being migrated from MS Mail to MS Exchange.
If you are now planning to upgrade your departmental e-mail server to MS Exchange or if you are now using MS Exchange, please read http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/digest/issue5/exchange.html for more information. From this web page, you can find out about the special features of MS Exchange online in FAQ format.
Computer Accounts of Final Year Students
Computer Accounts
The computer facilities of the Information Technology Services Centre are only provided for current University staff and students who are members of the University. Therefore, when you leave the University, your computer account, and data files in it will be deleted automatically. It is your responsibility to archive/backup your data files before leaving the University. The expiry date of all your accounts is set to the last day of the month printed on your Student ID card unless it is changed by your department/faculty. NO EXTENSION will be granted except with prior approval from ITSC.
Print Account in User Area
You are required to settle any outstanding amount in your Print Account before you leave the University. Otherwise, your record will be sent to University authorities for disciplinary action. Any remaining amount in your Print Account is not refundable but you can transfer it to other users through the Print Transfer Service available on PC LAN.
