Enhancing Browsing Speed through a Transparent Proxy
Under the current University network connection policy, you must configure a proxy setting in your browser before browsing overseas webpages. Effective from August 15, 2001, you can remove this proxy setting to enhance browsing speed. This is made possible through a transparent proxy newly set up in the ITSC.

With the transparent proxy, you do not have to configure your browser using a manual proxy setting. Rather, you can keep the browser's original setting which allows you to access any webpages without passing through a proxy server. This saves you trouble in configuring your browser, especially if you use the same computer to access the Internet through different network connections.

We have minimized the impact of this change for you. If you do not remove your current proxy configuration after mid-August, you can still access overseas webpages without any difficulties. However, the surfing speed through the transparent proxy is relatively faster. Please check http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/howto/proxy/index.html for details.

Besides these additions, four more access points will be installed in the coming months including - The Sir Philip Haddon-Cave Sports Field - Lingnam Stadium of Chung Chi College - Area of tree plantings (area outside of Bethlehem Hall and Adam Schall Residence) - Square area outside Chen Mu library of New Asia College

Web-based Teaching News
Teachers can now apply online for 2001-2002 WebCT courses. For your convenience, we have modified the application form to simplify the application procedures for WebCT combined courses. As usual, we will notify you about the application result in three working days. We will also update the student data of the corresponding WebCT course in late August. Your students can access your WebCT course when the term starts, or you can control the access through the functions available in WebCT.

Moreover, a series of web-based teaching training sessions have been arranged between August and September for you and your support staff to get familiar with the use of WebCT and CU Forum. Should there be any time conflict between these courses and your schedule, you may consider taking the online courses.
