New News Server Now Available for Your Testing

A new replacement news server, news-test.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk, is available for your testing until March 24. This new server is much more powerful than the current one. It is faster in speed with much more memory and harddisk. During the testing period, articles posted on either server (news-test.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk or news.cuhk.edu.hk) should appear on each other within seconds. However, there is a very small possibility that articles posted on the new server will need a few seconds before they become available.

If no major problem is reported to ITSC by March 24, this news server will be launched on March 25. When the new news server is in production, you will continue to access the news service at news.cuhk.edu.hk. No special configuration is required.

For any enquiries, please contact ITSC Electronic HelpDesk at http://helpdesk.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk or email cwis-help@cuhk.edu.hk.

PC Upgrade in User Area
A large pool of PCs in the User Areas at both Pi Chiu Building and Wong Foo Yuan Building are gradually being upgraded. Each upgraded PC has a powerful configuration of Pentium4-2G with 512MB RAM, 40GB harddisk, a 15" Color Monitor and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo.

The same Pentium4-2G PCs have been installed in the training rooms at Pi Chiu Building. In addition, these training rooms were equipped with slimmer LCD monitors. Hence, you should find more table space to work with and views of the projection screen are not blocked.

Check http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/compenv/userarea/hardware.html to locate these PCs and enjoy working in ITSC.
