Two WebCT Events in May
Starting from academic year 2003-04, the current

richer functions and improved user-friendliness. Two events have been organized
for facilitating your preparation for this platform.

University Software Standards - March 2003 Updates
Adopting campus-wide software standards is beneficial to the overall IT
development of the University as standardization helps to facilitate
intra-campus collaboration and electronic document exchange, shortens software adoption time, and reduces software training and support costs.
The latest University Software Standards as of March 2003 are similar to the standards of September 2002.
- Operating System*: Windows 98 (Minimum configuration: Pentium II 400 MHz, 128MB RAM, 5GB HD)
- Office Suite: Office 2000
- Electronic Filing: Acrobat 5
- E-mail: Outlook 2000, Outlook Express 5.5
- Scheduling: Exchange 5.5 with Outlook 2000
- Web Browser: Internet Explorer 5.5
- Web Browser add-on: Flash Player 5, Shockwave Player 8.x, Realplayer 8 and Media Player 7.1

*For Operating System - ITSC still recommends Windows 98 and will
continue to support Windows 98 until Jan 2005 when the software enters
the 'End of Life' stage of Microsoft's Windows Product Life Cycle. The
recommendation is inline with the suggestion of the RAC on extending our
support to software and systems for a longer duration in order to
achieve more savings.
On the other hand, ITSC will provide support for Windows XP Pro for
users preferring to use the new features of the new operating system. Users who want to use Windows XP now should first check whether the
administrative applications developed by ITSC/IMU being used are
currently supported under Win XP environment.
Please refer to
http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/mcas/swstandard/ for details.
