The general-purpose UNIX Server (Logic) was upgraded on 18 December
2000. There have been several enhancements to the server as follows:
Server Hardware
The current server was replaced by a faster HP L2000 Enterprise server
which is equipped with a PA8500 440 MHz CPU, 512M RAM and 144 GB Ultra2
SCSI hard disks. The operating system was also upgraded from HP-UX 10.20
to 11.0. Users should experience improved system performance as a result
of these hardware changes.
Users' Account Details
The default disk quota for users has been extended to 10MB. In addition,
the password in the new 'Logic' server has been made the same as the
Campus-wide E-mail (Mailserv) password.
Programming Language Enhancements
The language compilers, for example those of C, C++ and scripting
languages such as Perl, have been upgraded to their latest versions. It
is highly recommended that users re-compile the source code of their
programmes with the appropriate compiler to avoid any compatibility
problems between different versions of compilers.
Several new programming languages, including Python, PHP and Java
Development Kit, were added to 'Logic' during the upgrade. Please visit
