Email Scam: Receive Advertisements and Earn Money

Our E-mail system had recorded that an email scam was sent to several thousand CWEM accounts recently. The scam invited our staff and students to sign up at a website to receive advertisements after which users would supposedly earn money for each advertisement they received. We highly recommend you NOT follow any instruction as stated in this kind of promotional e-mail. They probably are e-mail scams just like the scam you may have seen on TV's "Police Magazine". Please refer to http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/network/app/email/scam.html.

University Software Standards - September 2003 Updates

Adopting campus-wide software standards is beneficial to the overall IT development of the University as standardization helps to facilitate intra-campus collaboration and electronic document exchange, shortens software adoption time, and reduces software training and support costs. The latest University Software Standards as of September 2003 are the same as the standards of March 2003 except for the following: a. For LAN Client Service, the recommended software is Novell Client 3.4 (Win98). b. For Web Browsers, Netscape 4.7x is no longer recommended as it is a very old browser and cannot display some web pages properly. Furthermore, because of its low popularity, Netscape 7.x is also not accepted as a standard browser. Please refer to http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/mcas/swstandard for details.
