Question: I cannot receive any e-mail from my CWEM mailbox even though I just sent out a message to myself. Also, I can't delete e-mail from my mailbox. What should I do? Answer: Probably your CWEM (Mailserv) storage limit has been exceeded. Under this condition, all incoming e-mail will be blocked and your mailbox will be temporarily disabled. That means you cannot even delete an e-mail from your mailbox. Hence, you need to either rearrange your mailbox to free up more disk space or apply for extra storage space. Please refer to the ITSC knowledgebase, https://helpdesk.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/kms/kblistentryAction?entryID=0000000264, for a detailed solution.
Many departments/units use the ITSC Mass Mailing service to make announcements to CUHK staff and students. However, our HelpDesk has recently received a few enquiries from some of you who cannot receive CU mass mailings. If you are one of those people, please check whether your e-mail address has been correctly registered in the Online Directory page because CU mass mailings are sent to that address. For details, please visit the ITSC knowledgebase at https://helpdesk.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/kms/kblistentryAction?entryID=0000000500
A computer worm, W32.Mimail.J and its variants (http://www.hkcert.org/home.html), has been reported recently. It usually comes with a non-existing e-mail address or with the subject "don't be late", "Important" and etc. This worm propagates itself through e-mail and makes your computer generate lots of abnormal network traffic on the campus network which greatly degrades network performance. Besides, the worm may further collect your credit card information if you have filled in the application form attached in its e-mail. The ITSC is now studying measures for not delivering e-mail from a non-existing CUHK address. Meanwhile, please always update your anti-virus scanner with new virus pattern files frequently and never open files without scanning them. If you are not sure the files are virus-free, NEVER EXECUTE them. This is very important even though the files come from someone you know because the address may be using a false identity! If you a student or a staff of the University, please obtain a free copy of PC-cillin 2003 at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/security/index.html to protect your computer NOW! The new 2003/2004 ITSC Student User Consultation Committee (SUCC) was recently formed. The committee is one of the communication channels between ITSC and you. It was established by ITSC in February 2002. The membership of the Committee includes representatives of student unions, student representatives of faculties and representatives of ITSC. You can now check your own faculty and college representatives on our website. http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/succ. Here, you can also find our meeting agenda and minutes. If you have any enquiries or comments about ITSC services, you can submit them through these student representatives. Please visit http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/succ for details.
