You can filter Spam mail using different approaches, one identifying from the header while the other directly filters according to the subject line of incoming e-mails. Instructions for both has been included in this guide.

1. Start Outlook Express 6

2. Launch the "New Mail Rule" window by clicking the "Tool" Menu. Choose "Message Rules", and then choose "Mail" to launch the "New Mail Rule" window.

3. Set the "Conditions", "Actions" settings

Header Filtering: To filter e-mail from a specific sender, check the box beside "Where the From line contains people" and "Move it to the specified folder" in the "New Mail Rule" window
OR Subject Filtering: To filter e-mail which contains specific words in the subject line, check the box beside "Where the Subject line contains people" and "Move it to the specified folder" in the "New Mail Rule" window

4. Define "Where the From line contains people"

Click the phrase "contains people", then the "Select People" window will come out.
The box "3. Rule Description" shows the conditions and actions you have just selected:

5. Header Filtering: Type the specific sender e-mail address in the text box provided (e.g. xxx@yahoo.com, then all mail from xxx@yahoo.com will be moved to the specified folder)
OR Subject Filtering: Type the specific text to be identified in the Subject in the text box provided (i.e. [SPAM-ITSC] if you want all emails identified as Spam by SFS to be moved to the specified folder)

6. Click "Add", and then click "OK" to confirm the e-mail address to be filtered.

7. Click the word "specified".

8. Select a folder for "Move the item(s) to the selected folder"

Select the folder for collecting unwanted e-mail, e.g. the "Deleted Items" folder.
Select the "Deleted Items" Folder:

9. Save the rule

When all the above items are ready, Click "OK".

10. The enable check box

The checkbox next to the filter name indicates whether a rule has been enabled or not.
By checking the box, the specific rule will be enabled as "New Mail Rule #1" below:
