Starting
from September 1998, ITSC has been working with
several departments to provide more Internet access
points on Campus. These network outlets can be
found in lecture theatres, classrooms, libraries
and public areas. ClassNet employs Virtual
Private Network (VPN) technology which uses
encryption and some security mechanisms to ensure
that only authorized users can access the network.
In some of the lecture theatres and classrooms,
you can also login the built-in
computers in those equipped sites. Together
with audio-visual equipment and multimedia applications,
teaching and learning can be enhanced. At present,
over 100 lecture theatres and classrooms have
direct connections with the Campus Network and
the Internet via the ClassNet.
To run on ClassNet using your laptop, you only
need to install Virtual Private Network (VPN)
software on your computer. Upon successful installation,
you can connect to the Internet using your laptop
through network ports in any classroom, library
or public area. Once connected, you will need
to use your Campus-wide
E-mail System (CWEM) computing id and password
for authentication.
