The
bandwidth of HARNET to the US was 12M. HARNET
also has a 5Mbps ATM connection to Hong Kong Telecom
NetPlus as backup. Our connections to the HARNET
backbone are two 12Mbps ATM circuits. All tertiary
institutions now have exactly the same connectivity
to HARNET.
CUHK
has the luxury of other high-speed Internet links
in addition to the above connection:
- a
secondary link to Hong Kong Telecom Netplus
which is 2Mbps inbound and 10Mbps outbound shared
with other projects at CUHK including Internet
services for CUHK alumni and SchoolNet;
- a
third link provided by UUNET which is 2Mbps
inbound & outbound; and
- a
direct ATM/155Mbps connection to Hong Kong Internet
eXchange (HKIX), which was set up and is operated
by ITSC of CUHK;
Our university probably has the best Internet connectivity
in Hong Kong so our users can continue to enjoy
excellent Internet access to facilitate their teaching,
research and study.
Note : HARNET (Hong Kong Academic and Research Network)
is the wide area network which links up the
campus networks of the eight tertiary institutions
in Hong Kong. It is under the management of the
Joint Universities Computer Centre (JUCC), a joint
organization of the Computer Centres of the eight
member institutions including,
