VPN, or Virtual Private Network in full, uses encryption and some security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the network to guarantee data security.

Campus users must set up a VPN connection on their computers when connecting through the network ports located at student hostels, classrooms, libraries and public areas.

While you are using a non-CUHK network connection (e.g. through a broadband service) to access restricted CUHK sites, you also need to set up a VPN connection over your ISP network. These restricted sites including

• Staff Self-Service Enquiry System
• CUHK Newsgroup Server,
• Library e-resources,
• Software downloading,
• Ftp to Logic Server,
• Computer equipment price information and etc.

There are 3 VPN connection services, named ResNet, ClassNet and CUHKNet. Here are their details:
