1. Overview of CUHK Wireless LAN

An 11-Mbps wireless LAN has been installed in the campus. It allows a wireless (radio) connection to a local area network. The wireless LAN employs an IEEE 802.11b standard. This standard includes an encryption method, the Wired Equivalent Privacy algorithm, that operates in a 2.4-GHz frequency band with Cisco enhanced roaming features. The roaming features allow PCs connected to the wireless LAN to move from one access point to another without losing the connection. And the wireless LAN can support 2000 concurrent users.

2. Getting Connected to CUHK Wireless LAN

Three wireless connection methods are available on campus.

3. Three wireless connection methods configuration

3.1 SSID=CUHK (Effective from Aug 27, SSID has been changed from CUwebLogin to CUHK.)
- connect to it via Web Portal Login

3.2 SSID=PCCW or SSID=Y5Zone or SSID=eduroam
- connect it via CUHK Wi-Fi Hotspot Partnership Programme

3.3 SSID=classnet
- connect to wireless LAN via a VPN connection
