PocketPC 2003 Second Edition VPN Setup Procedures
NOTE
  1. You are strongly recommended to backup your Pocket PC data before setup.
  2. The following setup procedures are recommended for PocketPC 2003 2nd edition users. If you are using PocketPC 2003, please visit http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/wlan/pda/pocketpc2003-1st.html

I. Install Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7 into the desktop computer
II. Install Kelbran RasMan into your pocket PC
III. Edit Network Settings
IV. Create a VPN client
V. Connect to wireless LAN through a VPN Connection


I. Install Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7 onto your desktop computer

*** If ActiveSync has already been installed on your desktop computer, you may skip this step.

1. Download MSASYNC.exe client.

2. Double-click MSASYNC.exe to install ActiveSync 3.7. Make sure your Pocket PC is connected to your desktop computer.

II. Install Kelbran RasMan into your pocket PC

2. Double-click kbRasMan.exe to install Kelbran RasMan. Make sure your Pocket PC is connected to your desktop computer.
3. Follow the instructions to install RasMan into your PocketPC.

4. When finished, click Start > Program. If RasMan has been properly installed, an KelBran RasMan icon should appear.

III. Edit Network Setting

1. Turn on the Wireless LAN function.
1.1 Click the "iPAQ wireless" icon at the bottom right corner.

If you don't find this icon, please select Start > Programs > iPAQ Wireless.

1.2 Click the WiFI icon so it turns green to enable the wireless LAN function.

2. To setup the wireless network.
2.1 Click Start > Settings > Connections > Connection tag at the bottom.

2.2 In "Connections Settings" page, click Advanced tab and choose Select Networks.

2.3 Select My Work Network for both Programs that automatically connect to the Internet and Programs that automatically connect to private network.

Then click OK.

2.4 In "Connections Settings" page, choose Network Card.

2.5 Select Add New....

2.6 Type classnet for Network name.

2.7 Click "Network Key" page, and select Open for Authentication. Then select Disable for Data Encryption.

Click OK.

2.8 In "Configure Wireless Network" page, click Network Adapters. Select the Wireless LAN Adapter. In this example, select iPAQ WLAN Wireless Adapter.

Then click OK twice.

IV. Add a VPN server

1. In "Connections" setup page, click Add a new VPN server connection.

2. In "Making new connection" page, type wlan for Name and vpn.wlan.cuhk.edu.hk for Host name/IP. Then choose IPSec/L2TP for VPN type.

Click Next.

3. Select A pre-shared key and enter ipsec-vpn.

4. Enter your Computing ID for User name and CWEM password as Password.

V. Connect to wireless LAN

1. Click Start > Programs > KelBran RasMan.

2. Enter your Campus-wide E-mail System (CWEM) computing ID and password.
Click Dial to connect.

3. If your computer connects to the network successfully, an Authenticated message will be shown.
