This setup procedure shows how to configure your wireless LAN card
in order to access the campus network through an University's wireless LAN connection. The following instructions are applicable
for Microsoft Windows Vista only. Setting up Wireless LAN on other versions may
require slight amendments.
1. Locate "Network Sharing Center"
a. Click Start and type the word "Network
sharing center" in the search box as indicated in below.
b. Double-click "Network and
Sharing
Center
"
when
Vista
locates it.

2. Select "Manage wireless networks"
and click Add.

a. Click "Manually create a network
profile" to setup a profile for wireless network connection.
b. Enter information for the
wireless network as in below where
- Network name = classnet. In the wireless world, network name here means
the name of SSID and "classnet" is the assigned SSID provided by ITSC.
- Set Security type to "No authentication (Open)".
- Always check with "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting". Please be aware that "classnet" is
intentionally not to broadcast for wireless connection and is hidden. So you may find that the broadcast signal of "classnet"
is dimmed in grey during network connection detection.
3. You are now successfully added
classnet for wireless LAN connection. Click
Close button.
4. As the network is not broadcast, you will not find the signal
detected there. But if it is at wifi coverage zone, you click "Connect" button to connect to the
network. The coverage location in CU campus can be
found at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/network/wlan for point 1.1.

5. The system will then connect
itself to the wireless LAN.
6. The next step is to authenticate yourself through a Classnet VPN connection in order to access the campus network and the Internet
a. Select "Start" and "Connect to"
b. Select ClassNet VPN Connection. Visit our instruction page on ClassNet VPN Connection if you haven't configure it before.
c. Enter your CWEM account
and password.

After a successfully login, you are now connected to the wireless LAN via a ClassNet VPN Connection and can use
the network. |
