1. What Is My Username/Login ID/Computing ID?

Your Username (Login ID or Computing ID) represents your identity on the network of CUHK. With this username and the corresponding password, you can access different services and facilities of the CUHK. (See the page of Services Provided by ITSC for the list of services and facilities provided by your account.)

Your username and password are given to you along with your CU Link. (Please find more at How to Get Your Accounts.)

1.1 For Student User

Your username is either of 7 characters or 8 characters.

  • Admitted in or before 2006
    Your username is formed by the character “s” followed by the first 6 digits of your student ID number.
  • Admitted in or after 2007
    Your username is formed by the character “s” followed by the first 7 digits of your student ID number.

1.2 For Staff User

Your username is created based on your staff ID number. When you get your account from ITSC, your username should be given to you.

In case you lose it, please contact our Electronic Helpdesk for assistance.

1.3 For Departments and Course Instructors

Both departments and course instructors can apply for various computer accounts and ITSC services.

When the accounts are ready, a Computer Accounts Application Reply Slip will be sent to the department or the course instructor by postal mail. For specific services, like room booking, the head of departments or the course instructor will also be informed of the application result by the ITSC Electronic HelpDesk.

2. Settings for Your Account Password

2.1 Change Password

Operation details can be found at ITSC Quick Start Guide GEN006 Recommendation for a Secure Password.

  1. Campus- wide E- mail System (CWEM)

    Change it online at http://accounts.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/resetpasswd/.
    This password allows you to access the Mailserv, Logic, Online Directory, Dial-up and VPN services.

  2. ITSC PC LAN

    Log into a computer at User Areas (1/F Pi Ch'iu Building or Room 103 Wong Foo Yuan Building) or one of the connected computer laboratories to make the change.

  3. High-performance Computing (Orpin/Organon/Orlon)
    Use the password provided by the facility to log into those systems.

2.2 Forgot and Reset Password

There are three ways for you to reset your password.

  1. Visit Help Desk in person during office hours

    Our Help Desk is located in Room 109A of Pi Chiu Building and Room 103 of Wong Foo Yuan Building.

    After you present your CU link card to our consultant-on-duty for identification, you will receive a Computer Account Reply Slip with your password specified.

  2. Mail application form

    After completing the corresponding application form, please return it to ITSC with a photocopy of your CU Link Card and a stamped self-addressed envelope. Your password will be sent to your mailing address afterwards.

  3. Call 2609-08845 to request the password mail to office
    (applicable for staff only)


    Once we receive your request, we will send a Computer Account Reply Slip with your password specified to the University office directly. Your new password will be effective one hour after your request is received.
