| The new Centralized
Authentication and Authorization System (CAAS)
was employed on 9 July 2005. CAAS has benefited
the University community as a whole for its stronger
authentication capabilities (multi-factor authentication),
better resources authorization control and single
sign-on feature. |
| |
|
|
| 1. |
Multi-factor authentication |
|
| |
CAAS supports multi-factor authentication and
thus gives users better protection. Authentication
factors such as password and CUHK digital certificate
can be deployed under the new system. |
| |
|
|
| 2. |
Resource authorization control |
|
| |
Different access rights could be granted to individual
groups of users based on their specific security
requirements. |
| |
|
|
| 3. |
Single sign-on |
|
| |
Single sign-on grants users access to multiple
applications that have been grouped under the
same security level. |
| |
|
|
| With the launching
of CAAS, the ITSC's Distributed Computing Environment
(DCE) had been terminated on 9 July 2005. As
a result, departments that had been using DCE
or the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol
(LDAP) as the authentication engine for their
applications should change to use CAAS. Please
contact ITSC
Electronic HelpDesk for technical assistance
if necessary. |
