Department of Japanese Studies

(1) Assistant Professor
(Ref. 02/086(685)/2) (closing date: October 9, 2002)
Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in Japanese Studies or Japan-related fields, with specialization in social sciences or humanities (excluding history and political science); (ii) a proven publication record in relevant fields; and (iii) relevant experience in university teaching and preferably thesis supervision. Apart from teaching and research work, the appointee will also undertake administrative duties. Proficiency in English, Japanese, Cantonese and Putonghua is preferred (please indicated in application papers). Appointment will initially be made on fixed-term contract basis for up to three years from August/September 2003, with prospect for re-appointment on a longer term basis thereafter subject to mutual agreement. Monthly Salary and Fringe Benefits
Assistant Professor: Salary will be highly competitive (commencing HK$46,355)
(approximate exchange rate in September 2002: US$1 = HK$7.75; ¢G1 = HK$12.16; CAD$1 = HK$5.02; AU$ = HK$4.29)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
For post (1): Benefits include leave with full pay, medical/dental and hospital care; housing benefit for eligible appointee (subject to the rules for the prevention of double housing benefits); plus a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to retirement scheme (totalling up to 15% of basic salary).
