The Chinese University of Hong Kong is a leading research-oriented university in Asia. With this tradition, the School of Law, in addition to its dedication to excellence in teaching, encourages its faculty to contribute to the production of lasting and innovative research in theoretical and empirical legal studies and publish with top international journals and publishers.
Research Environment
The School of Law provides a sophisticated intellectual home for resident and visiting legal scholars, who can take advantage of world-class research facilities, including rapidly developing regional and international research networks. Our current facilities include, among others:
The Universities Service Centre for China Studies (USC). The USC holds one of the worldˇ¦s preeminent collection of post-1949 Chinese materials. It has a complete set of major national and provincial newspapers published from the early 1950s together with early law, banking, and local public security journals published during that period.
The University Library System of CUHK. The Library System holds an excellent range of materials from varied legal traditions, including Chinese law, the common law jurisdictions and international law materials. This includes leading texts and journals in all areas, enabling its scholars to research on and contribute to scholarship in a varied range of areas. In addition to a rapidly expanding law library, which is currently stocked with approximately 46,300 titles, the University Library System at CUHK houses several resources of interest to legal scholars. An excellent collection of Hong Kong Company Annual Reports (dating back to 1946) and Hong Kong Stock Exchange Company Prospectuses provides a rich source of materials for scholars conducting research on Hong Kong company law or comparative company law. In addition, the University has a significant collection of Chinese legal materials and legal history materials that will prove invaluable to Chinese and comparative legal scholars.
Conferences. In line with the cross-disciplinary approach taken to legal education, the University encourages inter-departmental research and the School of Law is involved in co-hosting conferences and seminars with different departments and faculties in the University, ranging from the School of Public Health to the Department of Sociology. These conferences provide an excellent opportunity for scholarly presentations and exchanges on a wide range of topics.
