Special Workshop:
Methods for Automatic Computational Analysis of Data on Bilingual Acquisition
Brian acWhinney
Carnegie Mellon University
This presentation will show how researchers can utilize three basic methods to study bilingual language acquisition. The first method focuses on the analysis of morphosyntax using automatic part of speech taggers and parsers. The second method uses the "gem" technique to locate segments that reveal important patterns in linguistic and social interaction. The third method emphasizes the ability to use alternative programs (CLAN, Praat, ELAN, etc.) to analyze the same set of multimedia data.
