Research Interests:

My main research interests are formal syntax, syntax-semantics interface, syntax-information structure interface, and comparative syntax of East Asian languages and minority languages spoken in China. I have worked on a number of specialized areas, including:

  • Topic and focus structures in Mandarin and Cantonese, and their implications for the syntax-information structure interface (in collaboration with Prof. Wei-Tien Dylan Tsai)
  • The syntax and semantics of psychological predicates and ‘make’ causatives in Mandarin and English (in collaboration with Prof. Richard K. Larson)
  • The syntax of de, linkers, and Ezafe particles (in collaboration with Prof. Richard K. Larson)
  • The syntax and semantics of bare conditionals in Mandarin and correlatives in Indo-Aryan languages
  • Attributive adjectival modification in Mandarin
  • Noun phrase structure of Jingpo
