Dr. Anthony Chan graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and obtained his basic medical science degree and medical degree in 2000 and 2002, respectively. He completed his postgraduate pathology training at Prince of Wales Hospital, and received the fellowships from Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and Hong Kong College of Pathologists in 2009 and 2010, respectively. He undertook a hepatopathology fellowship in the Newcastle University under the guidance of the world-renowned hepatopathologist, Prof. Alastair Burt in 2011.

Dr. Chan has been working in Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology, Prince of Wales Hospital all along and joined the university in January 2015. He is currently a clinical associate professor in the department, and also an honorary associate consultant pathologist at Prince of Wales Hospital. He has special interests in liver and gastrointestinal pathologies in both tumorous and non-tumorous diseases. He actively participated national and international academic activities. He has been invited to provide lectures in various pathology meetings in mainland China and overseas. He has been appointed as a committee member of Youth Committee of the Chinese Pathologist Association since September 2015. He also serves Education Committee of Hong Kong College of Pathologists as special coordinator (anatomical pathology) and vice chairman since 7/2012 and 1/2014, respectively.

Dr. Chan has been actively involving in research projects and collaborating with scientists and clinicians, and is a co-author of an atlas of liver pathology and a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals (Link). His ongoing active research projects:

1. Clinical significance and pathogenesis of histological variants of hepatocellular carcinoma
2. Clinical relevance of immunological aspects in hepatocellular carcinoma
3. Clinical applicability of the Albumin-Bilirubin (ALBI) score in hepatocellular carcinoma and non-tumorous liver disease
4. Digital image analysis of non-tumorous liver of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
5. Molecular alterations of colonic serrated polyps
