Ho-keung NG¡]§d¯E±j¡^ MB ChB (Edin.), MD, FRCPath, FRCPA, FCAP, FFPathRCPI, MIAC, FHKC Path As a neuropathologist, my interest lies in diseases of the nervous system. We have active research programs on the molecular genetics of brain tumors, especially medulloblastomas and oligodendroglioma. We are interested in how alteration of the genetic components of cells, for example mutation or deletion of tumor suppressor genes, can cause cancer. Some of the cancers in the nervous system also occur in families. We are also interested in how alteration of cancer genes may stop tumors from growing. For these investigations, we use a variety of techniques. We look at whole chromosomes, specific segments of chromosomes of interest, the expression of the genes in terms of their protein products, as well as the sequence of cancer genes. We are also interested in the use of stem cells in the treatment of strokes. We are a research team including doctors from other disciplines, as well as laboratory scientists and graduate students, on both MPhil and PhD programs. |
