Kelvin C. K. Cheng (¾G´¼±j)

I am the scientific officer in the Molecular Haematology Laboratory (PWH) and an adjunct assistant professor of the Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology (CUHK). One of my duties is to use molecular biology techniques for diagnosis of various blood-related diseases. Currently, we offer the following molecular diagnostic tests:

  • Thalassaemia genotyping (e.g. a -globin gene deletions, a - and b -globin gene DNA sequencing, HPFH screening),
  • Hypercoagulability genetic tests (Factor V Leiden, Prothrombin G20210A, MTHFR C677T mutation screening),
  • Hereditary haemochromatosis gene mutation screening,
  • Lymphoproliferative disease (e.g. IgH and TCR gene rearrangement PCR assays and BCL-1/2 translocation tests),
  • Gene fusion studies (e.g. BCR/ABL, TEL/AML1, MLL/AF4).

 

My research will focus mainly on the role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in multiple myeloma, an incurable malignancy derived from plasma cells.
