Louis T.C. CHOW(周俊昌) MB BS (HKU), MD (CUHK), FRCPath, FRCPA Dr. Chow is a general surgical pathologist with interest in cardiovascular pathology. His interests are conduction system and innervation of the heart. The cardiac conduction system is made up of a group of specialized myocardiac fibres and is responsible for coordinating the conduction of electric impulses in heart. Abnormalities of the cardiac conduction system, whether primary or secondary to other diseases, are responsible for the pathogenesis of a wide variety of cardiac arrhythmias. Being a contractile organ, the heart possesses a rich supply of autonomic nerves. These autonomic nerves control the conduction of impulses as well as the contractile function of the heart. The detailed study and analysis of these nerves may help to unveil important pathophysiological mechanisms in heart diseases, especially the arrhythmias. |
