In collaboration with the Union Hospital at Tai Wai, the Hong Kong Institute of Family Medicine is established at the Medical Centre of the Hospital. The Institute is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. It serves as a centre of excellence in family medicine service, education and research, and is intended to operate as a model for the Asia Pacific Region.
The Institute provides professional medical services through its Family Medicine Clinic in the Medical Centre. The Clinic is staffed by academic members of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, experienced family doctors, and resident hospital staff.
The Institute is also providing continuing medical education activities such as seminars, video-viewing sessions and conferences.
The Institute will provide further educational opportunities to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. A Visiting Fellow has been appointed to contribute towards research in family medicine.
