| Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials |
Early in the antibiotic era, a number of prominent clinicians and scientists felt that antimicrobial agents would eliminate bacterial infections as a major cause of human morbidity and mortality. As we now know, that false sense of security had a relatively short duration. This actually has developed an ongoing battle between bacteria (other microorganisms) that develop resistance to antimicrobial agents and scientists who developing new and potent antimicrobial agents. Research in antimicrobial agents include:
Evaluate new systems for antimicrobial susceptibility testing
- Study the efficacy of new anti-infective agents
- Develop methods for detecting antimicrobial resistance mechanisms in hospital pathogens
- Improve clinical microbiology laboratory standards
- To develop and apply new methodologies in the clinical microbiology services
- Appoint as quality manager t o improve the quality management system of the clinical Microbiology services
