Resources and Facilities

Introduction

To facilitate student learning, a range of resources are available in the School and on the University campus. The campus has a very good library system, with details available from the Central Library. There is a comprehensive stock of books and nursing journals located mainly at the Medical Library (in the Prince of Wales Hospital) and the University Main Library. The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is open to students to help with study and writing skills. The Information Technology Service Center offers facilities and advice. The School offers up-to-date audio-visual equipment, computers and an on-line network. There is a well-equipped Nursing Skills Laboratory in the School, and all students are offered the opportunity to acquire and develop clinical and professional skills.

A range of services are available to support student life. The Nursing Society aims to unite nursing students, establish a close relationship between teaching staff and students, and organise extracurricular activities for members.

The University's Office of Student Affairs attends to student welfare and helps students take full advantage of their university education. The activities of the Office are administered through its six sections: the Appointments Service, the Psychological Counseling Unit, the Student Activities Section, the Scholarships and Financial Aid Section, the Student Amenities/Staff/Student Centre Management Section and the Statistics, Research and Publication Unit. Counseling on social, psychological, financial, and academic problems are also provided by the Dean of Students Office at each College.

Physical Education and Leisure Activities

To promote student interest in physical education, the University provides a variety of sporting facilities, including two sports fields, three gymnasiums, a swimming pool, twelve tennis courts, nine squash courts, four weight training rooms, several multi-purpose courts and a water sports center.
