History of The Nethersole School of Nursing

The original Nethersole School of Nursing was the first hospital-based nurses training school in Hong Kong. It shared the same motto of the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital about the provision of compassionate care to the sick, the School has nurtured numerous caring and compassionate nurses since its establishment by the Hospital in 1893. The original School pioneered the first midwifery training programme in 1904. The School was relocated to Kwun Tong in 1973, and operated under the management of the United Christian Medical Service later on. For over the past one hundred years, the Nethersole School of Nursing has assumed a crucial role in the promotion of health care and nursing education. The impact it has made is evidenced by the dedication, care and compassion as shown by its graduates all over the world. By the 21st century, keeping pace with the changing era, nursing education has progressed to tertiary level, with the School now housed in The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
