Welcome to The Nethersole School of Nursing. The School, formerly the Department of Nursing, was established under the Faculty of Medicine in 1991 and renamed as The Nethersole School of Nursing in 2002. It is the first university department of nursing in Hong Kong. Over the years, the School has successfully distinguished itself as a prominent nursing institution enjoying an international reputation for excellence in education, research and clinical practice.
The School has a strong profile of staff who have a diversified range of academic and professional qualifications, research expertise and clinical experience. They are actively committed to teaching and research for knowledge transmission and development, and to the promotion of the highest standards of nursing practice.
Fostering nursing leaders for the community and for tomorrow is the mission and commitment of the School. We deliver nursing education of an international standard, with pioneering and high quality programmes ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate levels sophistically designed to equip students with the art and science of nursing. We also work extensively and collaboratively with our clinical partners throughout the territory in both hospital and community settings to provide excellent clinical learning opportunities for our students. We are proud that our graduates are highly sought after because of their academic strengths and professionalism in nursing. In response to today's healthcare challenges, the School has been proactively planning a variety of new initiatives including introduction of innovative programmes to ensure our excellence in nursing education continues.
In parallel with knowledge transmission, the School places heavy emphasis on knowledge creation and development. The cutting-edge research of our academic staff aims to inform and develop nursing knowledge and clinical practice. To better reflect the health needs of people in Hong Kong, a particular focus of our research rests on addressing cultural implications specific to the Chinese population. Such findings have contributed greatly to the well-being of the community, the development of healthcare and the advancement of nursing science. Our research achievements have been locally and globally recognized, as demonstrated by the large number of research papers published, prestigious awards received and competitive grants obtained. In addition, we have established three centres to facilitate the evidence-based research and innovative clinical practice of the School.
The School continues to play an active role in the international nursing community. Through establishing academic links with renowned nursing institutions, developing collaborative projects with overseas partners, and hosting international conferences and seminars, we pool efforts and innovative ideas from colleagues around the world to promote nursing professionalism and the betterment of global health.
Nursing is a highly dynamic and challenging field of healthcare. I invite you to explore more about our School by browsing this website and share our passion for nursing.
