- Note the remarkable anisopoikilocytosis with prominent target cells and markedly hypochromic RBCs
- Decreased MCV, MCH and Hb with increased red cell counts is characteristic
- Extramedullary haematopoiesis with hepatosplenomegaly would develop as a result of the anaemia
