It is only after a few months that the full liquefactive appearance of a cerebral infarct becomes apparent. In this case, one can see severe destruction of the temporal lobe around the insula. Notice the thickened, mushy membrane of glio-mesodermal membrane that overlies the infarcted region.

The infarcted area corresponds to the territory of the middle cerebral artery.
