Gaucher's disease is an autosomal recessive disorder due to deficiency of an enzyme glucocerebroside, an enzyme that normally cleaves the glucose residue form ceramide. As a result, glucocerebroside accumulates in the phagocytic cells in the body and the nervous system. This picture shows large foamy histiocytes characteristic of the disease.
