Biography

Dr Vishal Jhanji is currently the Director of Refractive Surgery Service in the Chinese University of Hong Kong Eye Centre. Dr Vishal, as he is affectionately called in our Eye Centre, completed his ophthalmology training from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. His doctorate dissertation was on the contrast and comparison of modern harvesting techniques of donor cornea for transplantation. He then undertook his specialist training in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery in India and Melbourne, Australia. Dr Vishal has made significant contributions in innovative techniques of corneal transplantation and management of corneal infections. He has co-pioneered new techniques of endothelial corneal transplantation and has major publications to his credit in reputed international peer-reviewed journals. He is a very sought-after speaker to present his scientific and clinical advancements in local, national and international meetings. In 2008 and 2009 he won the Best of Show Award at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr Vishal is engaged in active international duties, including Section Editor, Journal of Mobile Technology in Medicine, Australia, Editorial Board Member, World Journal of Ophthalmology, Member of International Members Committee, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology USA, and Member of the Organizing committee in Refractive Surgery in Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congresses. Dr Vishal is presently involved in research encompassing keratoconus, dry eyes, infectious keratitis and corneal imaging. His research involves advanced clinical investigations and protocols, and also upfront laboratory technologies in ocular stem cells, experimental animal models and histopathology. Dr Vishal has a keen interest in teaching. He is a Visiting Professor at the Joint International Eye Center of Shantou University, China. He has been actively involved in the training and teaching of medical students, research students, ophthalmology residents, and fellows.

Dr Vishal has published more than 100 papers in SCI international indexed peer reviewed journals,2 books, and more than 15 book chapters.
