Biography

Dr. Chan was awarded the Prince Philip Scholarship to study medicine at the University of Cambridge and graduated from her pre-clinical years with 1st class honors before completing her clinical training at the University of London, UK. She obtained her MRCP qualification in 2000 before starting her ophthalmology training, initially in the UK, and returned to Hong Kong in 2002. She obtained her FRCSEd(Ophth) in 2007. She is currently Consultant at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital (HKEH), Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Honorary Visiting Professor at the Joint Shantou University-CUHK International Eye Center. Dr. Chan subspecialises in neuro-ophthalmology and medical retina. She has been the coordinator of the neuro-ophthalmology service and deputy coordinator of the medical retina and uveitis service at HKEH since 2007. She received fellowship training in Neuro-ophthalmology under the mentorship of Prof Neil Miller at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University, US; and Prof J F Cullen at the Singapore National Eye Center. Overall, she has published over 40 papers and 2 book chapters. She is on the editorial advisory board of “Neuro-Ophthalmology” Journal and she is an ad hoc reviewer for about 10 journals. She has been on the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong examination subcommittee from 2009-2013.

On the international front, Dr. Chan has given 15 invited presentations at international conferences and has taught in 5 instruction courses at Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congresses. She was the local coordinator for the neuro-ophthalmology invited program in the World Ophthalmology Congress 2008 & 2014 and the central secretary for the neuro-ophthalmology invited program for APAO Congresses 2009-2013. She has also been the secretary for the APAO Women in Ophthalmology Standing Committee since 2011. In 2012, she won the Best oral presentation award (runner-up) at the XIXth International Neuro-ophthalmology Society Meeting. Dr Chan was the recipient of the APAO Distinguished Service Award in 2013.
