Greta Olson
B.A., M.A., Ph.D. (Southern California)
Educated in Southern California, Greta Olson has focused largely on both the performance and study of Early Music. Her work as an ensemble instrumentalist and singer has gone hand in hand with her study of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century music. Dr. Olson's research has concentrated on both the performance practice and study of Spanish liturgical music from the mid-sixteenth to the mid-seventeenth centuries. The results of this research are seen in her teaching, which involves classes and seminars in music history from antiquity to 1700, courses in music transcription, performance practice and ensemble performance on copies of period instruments. Students in these courses have publicly performed works form original notation, and their own or publish transcriptions, thus integrating their study and performance of Early Music while making the fruit of their research accessible to a wider audience.
