Victor A. Vicente received his B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College before completing graduate studies at the University of Maryland, where he earned an M.M. in Historical Musicology and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Ethnomusicology. He specializes in the musical cultures of Turkey and the Middle East as well as of Portugal and the broader Lusophone world. His most recent work has focused on concepts of motion in Sufi Islamic music and on East-West tensions in Turkish pop. His other research and performance interests include Renaissance polyphony, Indonesian gamelan, and Bollywood film music. Before joining the music faculty at CUHK, Dr. Vicente taught at the University of Maryland, the George Washington University, in the State University of New York system, and at Ege University in Bornova–İzmir, Turkey.
