Master of Arts (Part Time)
Introduction
A two-year evening programme designed for music teachers, arts administrators, church musicians and advanced music lovers to upgrade their knowledge. Courses include western, Chinese and world music cultures, pop and film music in HK, music management and promotion, practical composing and arranging, music IT, music interpretation, etc.
Admission Requirements
Applicants should meet all qualification criteria of the University Graduate School:
- Graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree*, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or
- Graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree*, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B" in undergraduate courses; or
- Completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications* equivalent to an honours degree.
- Holders of a master's degree or those who expect to obtain a Bachelor's degree in the current academic year may also apply for admission.
* preferrably music-related
All students should fulfil the English Language Proficiency Requirement of the University before they are admitted:
- possess a pass grade in English in one of the following examinations in English
- Hong Kong Advanced Level Exam. (AS Level)
- Hong Kong Higher Level Exam.
- CUHK Matriculation Exam.
or
- have a degree from a university in Hong Kong or an English speaking country, or
- submit one of the following scores for assessment by the programme concerned
- TOEFL
- GMAT (Verbal)
- College English Test (CET) of PRC
- IELTS, or
or
- have obtained a recognized professional qualification awarded in Hong Kong or an English speaking country
Application Procedure

Application forms may be obtained in person at the Graduate School office (4/F, Academic Building No.1, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, N.T.) or Department of Music (Rm. 201, Hui Yeung Shing Building, Chung Chi College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, N.T.). Applicants may also request application materials by mail. See the details at CUHK Graduate School Website. Applicants may also submit their applications via the CUHK Graduation School Website.
Completed application together with a 300-500 words statement (either in English or Chinese) about their interest, and the required supporting documents should be returned to the Music Department. If applicants have submitted their applications via the Internet, they should quote the Application Number generated for their applications with the supporting documents.
