UTRECHT UNIVERSITY¡XSHORT STAY FELLOWSHIPS FOR CUHK PHD STUDENTS

BACKGROUND
Following the success of previous years, Utrecht University (UU), The Netherlands, offers this year another 15 short stay fellowships for PhD students from Hong Kong and China. The purpose of this 3-month visit is to further the knowledge and interest in the research that is being carried out by research groups in Utrecht, China and India and to strengthen cooperation between these groups.

Eligibility
As a partner of Utrecht University, CUHK¡¦s PhD students in all disciplines are considered eligible.

TERMS OF AWARD
The Fellowship supports:

  1. An economy class return ticket to and from Amsterdam (up to a maximum of £á1150)
  2. Visa reimbursement
  3. Accommodation in Utrecht
  4. Medical and third party liability insurance
  5. Monthly allowance

In addition, the UU faculty/research group will cover for the research infrastructure and supervision costs.

IMPORTANT DATES
Application deadline: 26 March 2009, Thursday (at 17:00 Central European Time, 00:00 Hong Kong Time). Students are advised to start their applications as soon as possible to secure nomination by Utrecht faculty.

Announcement of results: The selection of candidates will be made by the UU Executive Board in the week of 11 May 2009. Succesful applicants will be notified by email before 15 May 2009.

Fellowship commencement date: Selected candidates are expected to start their fellowship in the second half of 2009.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Interested PhD students must identify and contact a suitable UU professor willing to act as supervisor during the Short Stay Fellowship. Once the student finds a supervisor, he/she should fill in the application form and send it with a CV to the supervisor for approval. The UU supervisor will submit the complete application on behalf of the applicant.
