Since its foundation
in 1927, the university has enjoyed 75 years of history. The founding
principle was the late President Chang Kai-shek. After the retreat
of the ROC government to Taiwan, there used to be a resolution
of not considering the re-opening of any public university formerly
based on the mainland on the island. The university has become
an all-purpose academic institution consisting of eight colleges:
Colleges of Literature, Natural Science, Law, Business, Social
Sciences, Foreign Languages, Communication, and International Affairs
(the founding of the College of Education is scheduled in 2002).
