Hong Kong's medical facilities are among the finest in the world and all registered doctors and dentists are trained to international standards. Many have undergone postgraduate training overseas. Government and private hospitals with 24-hour emergency and outpatient departments are located all over the territory.

International students holding a valid student visa are entitled to fees and charges for 'Eligible Persons' in Hospital Authority institutions within their duration of stay in Hong Kong. It means IASP students could enjoy discounted rates for public health services and are exempt from surgical and hospital insurance. The eligible students are entitled to stay in the general ward of a Hong Kong public hospital and receive medical treatment at HK$ 100 per day with an admission fee of HK$50.

To became an 'Eligible Persons' to the surgical and hospital benefits, you must:

a. Obtain a student visa before coming to Hong Kong - never try to enter Hong Kong as a visitor for your study at CUHK unless you are prepared to pay expensive surgical and hospital fees and charges.

b. Validate your student visa when entering Hong Kong - getting a stamp from Immigration officers on your visa label is the only way to validate your visa. A student whose visa label is not stuck on passport/travel document and/or stamped by Immigration officers at the border cannot enjoy the surgical and hospital benefits.

In case of serious emergencies where hospitalization is required, call 2735-3400/2735-3355 or 999 for ambulance. You will be transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin which is about 10 minutes drive from CUHK.
