In 2005 Dr. Alex K. Yasumoto made a generous donation of HK$100 million to The Chinese University of Hong Kong to support continuing efforts in international student exchange as well as academic and research development.

It is Dr. Yasumoto’s belief that the younger generation should have a better understanding of the world. He therefore supports the vision and effort of CUHK to enhance global awareness of its students and to promote cultural exchange among the youth of Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan and other parts of the world.  He considers CUHK as a long-term partner which will help him to realize his vision of a better world.

At the cheque presentation ceremony on 22 September 2005, Dr. Yasumoto shared a motto his father taught him years ago which he still lives by:

“Give to the community much of what the community has given to you”

In accepting the donation, Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Yasumoto and was delighted that Dr. Yasumoto shares CUHK’s aspiration to build a great university with an international outlook.
