Sino British Fellowship Trust

Background 

The Sino-British Fellowship Trust, an international foundation based in the United Kingdom for promoting cooperation in higher education and research between China and Great Britain, donated to The Chinese University of Hong Kong an annual sum of GBP15,000 in support of the University academic exchange programmes with universities and research institutes in Mainland and Taiwan.

Source of Funding

The Sino-British Fellowship Trust donates GBP15,000 annually to support academic linkage activities.

Nature

To support academic linkages activites specific in "Subject cover scientific, technological, health, environmental and pollution problems, educational, natural sciences, mathematics, engineering and agricultural fields and the arts." with universities and research establishments in the Mainland and Taiwan that will result in better understanding at the institutional, faculty and/or departmental level. The support is divided into two categories: short incoming visits (not more than two weeks) and outgoing visits from / to the mainland and Taiwan.

Number of Awardees

Depends on the availability of fund.

Eligibility/Application

Academic staff members can apply by filling in the "application form for incoming visit or application form for outgoing visit." Applications should be endorsed by relevant department chairmen and faculty deans or directors of research institutes.

Financial Support

For Incoming Visits: 

  • Campus Accommodation 

  • Daily Living Allowance of HKD300 (or HKD250 for lecturer or equivalent grade)

For Outgoing Visits: 

  • Air / Train / Bus fare 

    In order to facilitate CUHK faculty members in conducting outreaching trips when accommodation is not provided by the hosting institution, the Committee on Academic Links approved that, with effect from 1 October 2009, University Academic Exchange Fund (China) can cover accommodation expenses if the staff member can source a package covering the airfare plus hotel and if the package cost is less than the normal round trip airfare. The applicant is required to present the quotations of a normal round trip air ticket and the package issued on the same day and the same period by the same company in Hong Kong as supporting documents for reimbursement.

Application Period

Applications can be made all year round.
