Invitation
for Nomination Exemplary Teaching Award
in General
Education 2008-09
Nomination is hereby invited
from undergraduate students, teachers of General Education courses,
department chairmen and SCGE members for Exemplary Teaching Award in
General Education. The award, in the form of a trophy, a certificate
and a book coupon, will be presented by the Senate Committee on General
Education (SCGE) to a maximum of three teachers in recognition of exemplary
contribution to teaching and learning in General Education. All nominations
will be reviewed by the SCGE Standing Committee basing on the nominee's
contribution to GE in the past two academic years (2006-07 and 2007-08).
Contribution to teaching and learning will be evaluated against the
GE objectives and expectation adopted by the Senate in 2003:
GE objectives:
- To provide
broad intellectual perspective and to instill an understanding of
the values of different academic disciplines.
- To develop
sensitivity to the common concerns of human existence especially
from the perspective of Chinese culture.
- To help students
develop their own judgment and sense of values.
- To cultivate
awareness of the connections among different fields of knowledge;
to develop the potentiality for integrating different fields of
knowledge as needed.
- To equip students
with life-long learning capacities especially through understanding
of the connections between academic pursuits and life experience.
Expectation of GE courses:
GE courses should aim
at the same intellectual level as major courses, and should carry the
same workload (in terms of reading, assignments, etc.) as major courses
with the same number of units and the same level.
Nominations should
be made on the prescribed nomination form (click
here to download) and returned by mail together with all the supporting
materials on or before 23 May 2008 to Office of University General Education
at G9 Fung King Hey Building, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
