Student Focus Group Study |
| |
In order to have a thorough understanding on students'
expectation, perception, learning experience, and satisfaction
towards GE in the University, RCGE and OUGE organized two
student focus group discussion sessions in 2005 and 2006.
60 students from different colleges and disciplines were successfully
invited to participate. The discussion topics included "reasons
for enrolling GE courses", "views on the value of GE" and
"expectations on GE".
The results of the study indicated that students were ambivalent
on the consideration and conflicts between "academic interest
and course grade", "major study and GE" and "reality and ideals",
which in turn affected their view on GE and their attitudes
toward study. The detailed report is published in the 2nd
Issue of University General Education Bulletin.

Alumni Focus
Group |
| |
In order to understand the outcomes of university education,
with particular focus on GE, RCGE organized two alumni focus
group discussion sessions in August and September of 2008.
Twenty-five alumni attended the meetings and shared their
opinions on the learning experience in the university, their
impression of GE, and suggestions on its development.
The result shows a positive comment on the General Education
in CUHK. After working for a few years, alumni experienced
the vital of General Education through working and living.
On the other hand, alumni also pointed out that GE is the
key for building up "CU-er" identification. Please
refer to the 6th Issue of University General Education
Bulletin for detailed discussion.

Teaching
Experience of Liberal Studies Teachers in Secondary Schools |
| |
In early 2008, RCGE conducted a study on ¡§Teaching Experience
of Liberal Studies Teachers in Secondary Schools¡¨. This study
aims at understanding the view of secondary school teachers
towards Liberal Studies subject in the new senior secondary
curriculum. Data for the research are gathered through questionnaires
and focus group discussions as RCGE invited secondary school
teachers who had taught Liberal Studies subject to participate.
This serves as a pilot study and the result will be used as
reference for the follow-up questionnaire survey.
