International House (I-House) 國際生舍堂

Are you looking for an exciting platform to interact with students from all over the world?
 
The I-House is an apartment-like hostel for undergraduate students. The diversified resident composition, with local students, mainland students and overseas exchange students each forming one-third of the resident population, provides students with abundant opportunities to have cross-cultural communication and exposure. Together with the various recreational and learning activities and the home-like atmosphere, what offered at I-House is a unique hostel experience for students.

Appearance of I-House

I-House 1 & 2 are located in the north-western part of the campus, opposite to the Hang Seng Hall of United College.
   
Number of floors and rooms:

Living room with balcony

I-House 1 has 9 floors and I-House 2 has 10 floors. There are 2 flats on each floor, and each flat accommodates about 11 to 16 residents. There are 3 types of rooms in I-House, including single (47), double (117) and triple (45). The total number of bed places is 416.
   
In-flat facilities:

Kitchen

Living room, balcony, kitchen, bathrooms, sofa, television, and air-conditioning
   
In-room facilities:

Double room

Standard bed, writing desk, book shelf, chair, wardrobe, air-conditioning, telephone and computer points
   
Communal facilities:

Gymnastic room

Laundry, badminton court, outdoor fitness equipment, barbecue grill, rest area, and common room (with gymnastic room, music room, reading room, ping-pong table, newspapers, television, vending machine, drinking machine and sofa)

There are 6 residential resident tutors in the Warden's management team.

   
Resident Association & Activities:

Resident activity: Baking class

The cabinet elected to the I-House Resident Association for 2006-07 is "I-Dream", co-chaired by Mr. Alvis Tang and Ms. Dyota Li.

A broad range of resident activities are organized every year, which include orientation nights, sports activities, baking classes, breakfast gatherings, Halloween party, barbecue party, etc.

Hostel management:
The I-House is managed by the Incoming Students Section, Office of Students Affairs, CUHK.

Transportation:
  • Take the CUHK shuttle light bus and get off at the stop of United College Staff Residence. Take the road to the left and walk for 2 minutes to reach I-House. The shuttle light bus fare is HK$4.5 per trip.
  • Take the CUHK shuttle / meet-class bus and get off at the stop of Residences No. 3 and 4. Take the road to the right and follow the road sign to the I-House. The walk takes about 8 minutes. The CUHK shuttle / meet-class bus is free during term time.
  • During Sundays and public holidays, the CUHK shuttle bus will stop at United College Staff Residence. Take the road to the left and walk for 2 minutes to reach I-House. The CUHK shuttle bus fare is HK$1 during those days.
