Types of Services

Psychological Counselling

Individual or group counselling is provided to facilitate students' adjustment to university life, to enable them to cope with problems effectively, and to enhance their personal growth and development.

Appointment for counselling can be arranged by contacting the Unit in person or by telephoning 26097208 during office hours.

Faculty and administrative staff can also refer students for counselling by using a Referral Form (download Referral Form) and sending it to the Student Counselling and Development Service by internal mail or fax (26037388).

Individual Counselling Service Operational Time Pledge

1. Appointment booking within 10 working days
2. Handling referrals within 3 working days
3. Waiting time for counselling after arrival within 15 mins
4. Length of counselling session usually 60 mins./session

Psychological Assessment

Individual assessment and group testing workshops are conducted for students who are interested in understanding more about themselves or in identifying personal needs for counselling and self-enhancement.

Personal Growth Series

Workshops and group programmes are organized regularly to enhance students' personal growth and effectiveness.

Topics include self-exploration, self-confidence, emotional management, communication and interpersonal skills, etc.

Self Enhancement Campaign For Freshmen

At the beginning of each year, the Service conducts a series of programmes for freshmen to help them adjust and actively participate in university life.

These include mental health talks, screening, workshops, follow-up counselling as well as publication of educational material.

Mental Health Education

To enhance the campus community's mental health awareness, the Service regularly organizes outreach activities as well as publishes educational articles and pamphlets through the Service's web page, publications of the Office of Student Affairs, etc.

Consultation Service

The Service also provides consultation to staff and students on matters pertaining to student counselling and mental health.

To further strengthen the counselling support to students, three sets of Operational and Referral Guidelines have been produced for staff's reference. Training workshops and sharing sessions on student counselling and related issues are also organized periodically.
